Awesome reward or bug? Prowler's profit...

Post » Thu Dec 13, 2012 7:38 am

I just FINALLY finished the Thieves Guild's (and probably the game's) most demanding quest, No Stone Left Unturned. This is Vex' quest for the Thieves Guild's paragon, the Crown and all the Unusual gems.

The reward is the passive ability Prowler's profit, which is defined thusly: " Anywhere gems might be found, members of the Thieves Guild always seem to find a few more. "

This is all well and good and I'm happy for finally tracking down all these gems and their crown. I'm also happy to be rewarded decently but I'm not sure if this is WAD or a bug and I want input;

Now, EVERY RANDOM CONTAINER, from the lowly burial urn to every chest in the game gives me 3 random gems on top of the normal loot. Its clearly better than "anywhere gems might be found" because this is on top of any random gem finds (I sometimes get 4 instead of three at a rate that suggests the 4th is the usual gem finds). In short, when in a dungeon, pretty much ANYTHING I open has three gems. Sometimes I find two gold pieces in the crappiest imaginable container but now, it comes with a flawless gem and two commons.

I dont MIND per se, since my character is a level 81, nearly a millionaire, most quests complete type - and I have no use for money beyond bragging rights - but I want to know if this is WAD or if my load order made Prowler's Profit buggy.

Thanks!

This should be in the Vanilla Skyrim spoilers thread.
However, I'll answer anyway.
My friend seemed to have the same results with Prowler's Profit on Xbox. I never finished getting all the gems. I could've, but I had too much money to care anyway. Not to mention a stock of gems and other valuables that could fill the Fable 3 Sanctuary Treasure room fit to burst.

Duh, I didnt mean to post this in Dragonborn spoilers, my apologies.

Well, if this is WAD, its pretty great. Every thing that COULD POSSIBLY drop gems, including some monsters (dragons, at least), now get 3 extra random gems. Prowler's profit indeed. Very soon opening my gems chest is going to lag my game for a second or two  I have no reason to actually vendor gems, so Ill be collecting them instead, trying to make 1K stacks or something.

Yeah I used to find a gem in almost every container, seldom did I NOT get one it was nuts. I ended up with so many gems I could build Prouspire manor out of it. If I could and if I wanted to I couls start Dragon proofing it by making it diamond exterior.

~16 flawless rubies
~30 flawless garnets
~20 flawless sapphires
~2 flawless diamonds

Etc etc

I keep smithing with them but I always end up running out of ingots before I do gems, it's insane.

Okay , well that answers my question :) Its not my mods screwing things up!

Thats a pretty powerful reward, for sure, but then again, this is my 4th playthrough and the only one in which I found all the gems, so I guess this kind of effort had to pay off in spades. :)

I could gild all my houses, interior and exterior. Then embed diamond exterior, sapphire washroom, ruby bookshelf, malachite/silver flooring, and emerald/sapphire/garnet/ etc etc walls. Oh and amysthest dorrknobs.

Just give me a week or two and I could probably come up with it using prowler's profit. Imperial's luck helps the gold.

My character who has the Prowler's Profit perk has gems collections in just about every house. It was nice that Dragonborn actually gave us something to do with some of them.

My level 81 character has over 1 million septims in jewels in a safe at the house. Not including the tons that I made into jewelry or traded to vendors. It's vastly overpowered considering that there's no vendor in the game that can reasonably buy them all from you. The best you can get is the glitched guy in Riverwood.

Edit: It's awesome for decorating the house though.

What my character was doing was buying up everything of interest from the general traders and then paying them in gems. The jewellery maker in Riften never once had anything interesting to buy, I was a bit disappointed in that. Some fancy jewellery or enchanted jewellery would have been nice, but he never sells anything special.

Oh, don't get me started on my ore/ingot & alchemy ingredient collections. I did the same thing as you. Hit up the vendors and bought out everything, then swapped enchanted gear/gems until they were broke.

Can you drop money in the basemant of your house to a degree you can swim in it, or walk in it going up to your waist?

Indeed, this has been the case since the release of Skyrim.
With Prowler's Profit you get more gems than you could ever hope to know what to do with.
Ive started a huge pile of flawless gems in one of my houses. I dont even pick up gems that arent flawless anymore.

By the time I get it I don't pick up any gems period. Or much of anything else for that matter.

But, to bring this back to Dragonborn, I really did like how they had those piles of gold in some places. If you could drop your coins somewhere for display purposes, it would be nice if you could drop piles like those. I would be like Scrooge McDuck!

Yes it was awesome to see gold piles again :)
Last game they were in was Daggerfall.

Very good question and a great idea. Think I'll make the north wing in one of my Hearthfire homes a storage room, but instead of obtaining furnature, I'll just make it a treasure room. My one toon who has the prowlers profit has almost half a million septims and lots of gems. I think I'll go in and drop one coin at a time to see if I can get the room to look like One Eyed Willy's treasre stash.

Be careful if you just drop stuff it tends to fall through the floor sometimes, so if you just drop the money most of it will probably just go through the floor and disappear while at higher levels you have plenty usually at lower levels that can be a bummer.

I get the same effect. I rather enjoy the fact that I can use them to make an army of spiders. I'm already a jack of all trades, and now with these spiders, I can roleplay a spider mage (spider mage, does whatever a spider mage does). What's more frightening than a horde of zombies, mind control/elemental spiders, and atronachs, all headed by a vampiric archmage/listener/harbinger/Dragonborn?

Only Rosie O'Donnell. And that's about it.

 That's a scary image.

Those spiders are pretty sweet. I only received the Prowlers Profit once, on my 500 hour character. By the time the saves became corrupt I had 320 flawless amethysts, 115 flawless diamonds, and 250 flawless sapphires. That I can remember. I don't remember the rest.

LOL - I have the same experience (well after one character collected all 24 and encountered a bug where Vex wouldn't let you finish the quest) and now I'm super rich. I must have about 300,000 septims and dozens of flawless gems - it makes you feel differently about looting after a while.

There's a quest where a Dunmer asks you to fund something and at one part he asks for cash and the only dialogue option is like 'you can't be serious' and I was like 'I don't care, 6000? I'll give him 60,000 septims if he wants' what does it matter when you're super rich? High level characters with this many septims shouldn't buy houses in cities... they should buy cities!

Well unless you are a PC player with some mod, you cannot drop coins. If you can on the consoles I would love to know how, I already have a treasure room, it is just missing some money sacks and gold coins.

My character gawks at 6,000 gold for an excavation, but is perfectly fine with giving his kids a 1000 gold allowance. I think he needs to get his priorities straight.
