Newb Confused By MQ...Rolling Characters?

Post » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:29 am

As I search for help in things to help my game play I come across topics that never even crossed my mind as I was ignorant to them...So I need help & even if that means someone must give me a small spoiler or 2 I dont care...I just want to understand the game & help make better choices for myself...

#1-What the heck IS the main quest? I see it mentioned so often that I'm like :ahhh: I am level 24, & I dont know if the MQ has anything to do with picking a side in the Stormcloaks/Imperials bc I have not chosen a side...

#2 Civil War quest...What is this bc I dont know if I've started it! I'm so confused by this  :ermm:

#3 Rolling characters? Changing characters ? What is this all abt ? I'm pretty happy with my character tho there are a few things I wish I knew ahead of time I could have skipped (like the TG since I play a decent character who doesnt pickpocket or steal) but do ppl really start from the VERY BEGINNING with a new character & replay in a different way? sounds exciting since ive never tried being a bad game & sounds kinda thrilling but i just cannot imagine all that gameplay i have put in so far with the level im at, all over with a new character...i play my current character as if i were her & do things based on what i would actually do...so can someone please give me details abt this? also i thought i had read or heard there was a way mid way thru the game to change your character & spread the perks etc as u wish into this new character if u wish?

This game has so much to offer that I get overwhelmed easily !! I play it every chance I get & must admit, on my days off work, I have been known to spend 12+ hours playing... I've even compromised a few times on how much sleep I'm willing to get to get by just for another hour...or two...etc of gameplay!!

Main Quests-Finding out what it means to be Dragonborn and fulfilling your destiny.

Civil War- Ending the Civil War that plagues Skyrim, choosing from either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks.

Character Rolling?- Making a new character?

The Main Quest is the questline that follows after going to Whiterun and talking to the Jarl.
The Civil War Quest is to pick a side in the Civil War and conquer the province.
Rolling a character is a term for making a character, starting a new game.

Alright first, take Deep breaths.
  • MQ starts when you're told to go to whiterun, following directions from their is proceeding with the MQ.
  • Civil war is optional, if you see it on your journal, then yeah you started. if you've reported to the head honcho's in either windhelm or Solitude Ulfric/Tullius respectively, you've begun it. thankfully you don't need to commit entirely, you can leave it for whenever you wish to continue with it.
  • Rerolling is just a term for starting a new game and doing things differently, nothing special, you playing your char how you would act is but one of many ways to play, really they aren't that entirely different from each other so don't go adding more fluff to your plate. enjoy what you're doing.

1. The Main Quest of the game has to do with the Dragon Menace.

2. The Civil War is a large series of quests that is separate from the MQ, but can be done at the same time, if you want.

3. Rolling is a term that refers to the Dice Rolls that were used to set up characters in Table Top RPGs. In the earlier TES games, you would even hear a dice roll as you randomly selected attributes. So, to Roll a character means to make one.

The main quest is the Dragonborn quest-line. The war is a separate thing that happens at the same time. But, they go hand-in-hand in some aspects.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean with "What is the civil war quest?" It's a war between "true sons of Skyrim (rebellion)" and the empire.

As for changing characters, I do it all the time. But that's because my characters die and I start over, or they reached level 35 and became too powerful to be fun to play with anymore. Small things, such as starting the thieves guild with a good character, is certainly not a reason to start again.

Skyrim is not confusing at all, once you spend some time reading about the game online and from the manual. It's actually extremely straight forward. Nothing you do has any negative and lasting impact in the game. Other than perhaps killing an entire town's merchants, etc. Just have fun being lost the first time around is my advice!
