I sometimes like to stick to canon in my playthroughs and when I do I always play as the default nord in game and like to name my character in the Dragon Language somehow. I previously went with "Vahlok" (Guardian) until I realised that is also a character in the Dragonborn dlc.

However something I've always wondered was - were the Dragon Priests such as Miraak etc born with those dragon language names or are they aliases given to them by dragons after their induction into the cult similar to the way Anakin Skywalker = Darth Vader or Tiber Septim = Talos?

And therefore would the "Canon" dragonborn have a dragon language name at all or would he simply have a regular nordic name with Dovahkiin being his alias? I'm very poor at naming nord characters.

I know nobody may be able to give a well supported answer as there doesn't seem to be much information on this but it's just something I'm curious about.
