Improved Soultrap
by Magistrate
[Version]
1.0
[Description]
Let's face it, vanilla Soultrap is a pain to use, range is uncertain, there's no visible projectile and duration svcks especially if you are playing at higher difficulties. So I tried to find a solution on the nexus and I found http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5717, three things bugged me though:
- The mod was made in TESVSnip and could potentially corrupt savegames plus it is discontinued.
- The duration was unaltered and sometimes it may take more than 60 seconds to kill a target.
- It was not compatible with two of my favourite mods which I can't live without: Mighty Magick and Named Souls In Gems.
Hence "Improved Soultrap":
This mod adds two new spells: SoulClaim I and SoulClaim II, take into consideration that these are very powerful spells and they will rapidly deplete your mana reserve. The vanilla Soul Trap was not modified to enhance compatibility. Stats as follow:
Base Duration : 60 sec (Vanilla Soultrap) 90/180 sec (Soul Claim I & II)
Visible Projectile : No (Vanilla Soultrap) Yes (Soul Claim I & II)
Base Cost : 75 (Vanilla) 150/300 (SoulClaim I & II)
Warning: IF you are using http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166* and/or http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510** you will NOT need to run "Improved Soultrap", you will have to run instead modified versions of the two mods you need (See down below - Compatibility Patches).
* I know http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 offers exactly the same feature (a visible projectile based on "Projectile Soul Trap with Visible Impact Effect", minus the extended duration) but for reasons which escape me that particular feature all of a sudden CEASED to work in my game, I reckon it is not fault MM's creator but rather mine since I have hundreds of mods installed or Bethesda's way of dealing with the SoulTrap script, nonetheless I wanted to fix that and offer the same fix to others in my condition.
** If you are wondering what http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510 is I will tell you. It is an "upgraded" version of the more famous http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5312 which in addition of fitting the right kind of souls into the right kind of gems it adds the name of the soul to the description, if you use http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5312 instead of http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510 and if there are enough requests I guess it's easy to add a compatibility patch for "Acquisitive Soulgems".
[Change Log]
1.0
- Initial release.
[Compatibility Patches / Possible Scenarios]
1) You are NOT running neither http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166, nor http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510
- Install "Improved Soultrap.esp" in your data folder and you are golden.
2) You are running http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 and the visible projectile does not work.
- Install "Improved Soultrap.esp" and load it AFTER all "Mighty Magick" files.
3) You are running http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 AND http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510 (this is my scenario)
- Do NOT install "Improved Soultrap.esp" run instead the modified version of "Mighty Magick" and "Named Souls in Gems" and be sure to put the lattest after "Mighty Magick".
[What I Modified in the Compatibility Patches]
Original mods were of course UNTOUCHED save for two removed conflicting references. More specifically:
"Mighty Magick - Conjuration.esp"
- I removed the soultrap modification.
"NamedSoulsInGems.esp"
- I added the visible projectile feature featured both in "Mighty Magick" and "Improved Soultrap" to "NamedSoulsInGems" itself.
[Required Files]
1) You are NOT running neither http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166, nor "Named Souls in Gems"
- Just "Improved Soultrap.esp"
2a) You are running http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 and the visible projectile works fine on your system.
- None, you may not need my mod, unless you want the extended duration.
2b) You are running http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 and the visible projectile does not work on your system.
- You do need to have the FULL http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 mod installed since the compatibility file I provide sports only a tiny modification.
3) You are running http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 AND http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510:
- You do need to have the FULLhttp://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510 installed, once you have done that overwrite the original files with the ones I provide in the Optional Section.
[Getting The Spells]
To get "SoulClaim" added to your spell book fire up the console and type:
help soulclaim
Then use:
player.addspell [ID#]
you have to use the command twice to add both versions (SoulClaim I and SoulClaim II) to your spellbook.
[Uninstallation]
Remove "Improved Soultrap.esp" and, if applicable the two modified versions of "Mighty Magic - Conjuration.esp" and/or "NamedSoulsInGems.esp".
[Compatabilities]
- With the proper compatibility patches installed, this mod is compatible with both http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12510.
