Best way to set up an "Arena" type fight cave

I'm wanting to add a section in my quest where the player has to go win a series of fights in a "fight cave" that's sort of like a warriors arena. The premise is that the player wins enough fights for another of my characters to win back the money he has lost betting on the wrong fighters.

I suppose one way to set this up would be strictly linear where the player talks to the fightmaster to tell them he is ready for a fight. I could enable my opponent with this dialog or set a stage so that when the player enters the "pit", the opponent is there and ready to fight. I also thought about having an announcer in the pit who actually starts the fight like a boxing referee. He might run a little scene getting the crowd excited for the match or whatever. Then use an Ondeath script to set the next stage when the opponent dies and rinse & repeat this as many times as I want to. I would probably have 5 or 6 fights, and the player could then continue on with the other stuff in my quest.

But I also thought it might be cool to have the option for players to be able to return and fight from time to time to earn some gold like you could in Oblivion. I don't think I would want to go as far as setting it up so the player could wager on fights, as I really don't want to invest that much time into this little diversion. It's just meant to be a fun little thing to do to make it a little more interesting. Plus I need to fill in some time, lol.

But am I going about this in the correct manner, or is there a simpler way to set this up?
