Potential Vanilla Expansion: Continuum

Post » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:32 am

I mentioned inside an older, unrelated thread the idea that instead of bringing in a whole new set of land for another DLC, why not take what is already there like the Companions and other factions and continue their stories with entirely new, fully functional quest lines in addition to brand spanking new radiant quest as well as new armors, heavy and light and plenty of new abilities on top of it all. I wanted to appeal to a broader audience instead of just leaving an idea this good at the bottom of a dying post. Since DLC are targeted at the people who will certainly buy a DLC, the hard core fans, this is perfect because what hardcoe fan wouldnt want to continue where their tales were cut short?

I want to know what you guys think about this, I thought about some pretty awesome ideas for the Continuum but I dont want to be that guy that list like three pages worth of info on an idea and readers just burp, fart and go the next post so if it appeals to you i'll post what i've been thinking. Trust me it's GOOD.

You cannot make DLC that expands upon, or "finishes" base game factions.

Ahh yes the "Broken Steel" argument which totally ignores that Broken Steel was made soley becuase of massive fan backlash to the terrible, just god-awful terrible, ending to Fallout 3. Broken Steel was an oddity, and even still, that Broken Steel cost money, money for finishing stuff that should have been finished in the base game itself, caused even MORE backlash.

Making a DLc that extended base game factions Is like trying to sell the Mass Effect 3 extended cut for money, its a terrible idea.

Explain horseback combat. And Vampirism alterations as well as Vampire Lords. And Vampire and Werewolf perk trees.

Those aren't things that "finsih" anyhting in the base game. Horses, even without combat, and Vampires/Werewovles, evenwithout pekr trees, are final, and working.

furthermore, none of that is story content, and the story content added in the DLC...................... is totally unrelated to the base game's facitons.

So in your book, an oddity like Broken Steel or a continuation themed DLC is regarded as real.... but at the same time unreal. Like, its impossible... but its been done already..... o.k. thats cool. Just bypass all logic for the sake of arguing. Happens all the time.

No, in my book an oddity is an oddity, and thus, odd, and thus, not something normal, and thus not something anyone should except regularly.

Ignoring the entire reason Broken Steel was made does not make the argument that "becuase broken steel did so could other DLC" right, in fact, it makes it wrong. Broken steel ws a one-time thing that happened becuase of a very very very poor design choise in regards to the end of the game.

Factions, game itself, what's the diff? Why not apply that logic to DLCs in general?

"You cannot m ake DLC that expands upon, or "finishes" the game".

Dragonborn does a small smidge of it with revealing that...
Spoiler
Delvin Mallory of the Thieves' Guild has a brother, and that brother is Sapphire's father

Why not expand upon the factions?

Broken Steel was a corrective DLC, as was ME3 EC. These would be expansive.
