ACTA is dead!

In Europe, anyway.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/20/acta_gets_last_last_rites/

ACTA is completely, finally, no-turning-back dead-and-buried in Europe, with the European Commission admitting that there is “no realistic chance” of the treaty being adopted in Europe.

I'd forgotten that this was ever even a thing. Is that good or bad? :ermm:

This is good news.

We will let this thread stay open as long as we keep politics out of it. Let's keep this to ACTA.

As a trade agreement, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement was able to sidestep a lot of processes which (can) protect the people from dodgy laws, but any country that buys into it is required to do various things which are very definitely bad for consumers.

No, I meant that I didn't know if it was good or bad that I'd forgotten about it.

Well, what I said translates as, "ACTA is bad. It is bad for consumers and is a sneaky way to bypass some democratic processes, which is also very bad in itself. So it being well and truly killed in the EU is a good thing."

I know what it was and what it did (Or tried to do), I had just completely forgotten that it existed in the first place.

You weren't very clear about it... a bit like ACTA itself :P.
