HtN: Scaling Textures Down in Photoshop

wassup,

I made this image in PS as 1024 x 1024 in ps:

and I'm trying to get it scaled down into this:

I'm copying it over to the UVW map and then using the Transform tool to scale it down, but it gets super pixelated when i do this. I've tried higher and higher resolutions but im stuck.

1st - im exporting the uvw as 1024, should i be using a higher resolution?


2nd - when i unwrap my object does it matter at what scale an object is in the checkered window? like in the 2nd link above, ive i want a specific object that is small with a fancy graphic, should i be making that bigger?


3rd - Is there a scaling trick or any tips in Photoshop that a man can use?
