Rendering thread exception (ATI) (Crashes)

ATI Radeon HD 6770M @ 1366x768 [Latest Drivers]
Intel i7-2720QM @ 2.2GHz
Windows 8 Pro x64

Have tried:
  • -windowed
  • Launch as admin
  • Compatibility Options (XP, 7)
  • Integrity of Game Cache verified
  • Steam Offline Mode
  • Steam In-game Community (Steam Overlay) Disabled
  • Vertical Sync Disabled



Got Rendering thread exception the first time. Afterwards I receive APPCRASHes around the same time.

I don't have permission to post links (images) apparently.


The game crashes from anywhere between the menu and the beginning introduction of the game (where you are on the boat).
Any solutions? The game has been out for months.
