best race for mages

I was thinking about starting a new play through as a Mage and can't decide between Altmer and Dunmer (maybe a different race if better). so the question being what's all your opinions on best race for a Mage

Altmers are technically a lot better, but I never play as them since I hate them. :P If you don't care about them lore-wise I'd suggest you go for Altmer.

How come you didn't consider a Breton?
