What planet are we on?

Post » Thu Dec 27, 2012 1:15 am

What planet is Tamriel on? It's not Earth I'm sure. But the loud preacher guy in front of the Talos statue is Whiterun says that we are on Earth in one of his ramblings. Is this just an oversight by the writers? Or does he mean earth as in dirt? It really doesn't sound like it to me, it sounds like he means the planet Earth.

Nirn....earth is either an oversight or a generic term to describe the ground

If I'm not mistaken the entire Elder Scrolls universe takes place on Nirn.

Minus the Oblivion planes we visit in the games.

It's Nirn. Earth usually means ground or dirt when it appears in TES, but Heimskr's preaching is probably an oversight.

It's on Nirn...It has two moons and I think generic the term "earth" is used to represent something that is lived on.

We have a winner. Heimskr uses "earth" just opposed to "heaven".

Thanks for all the fast replies. I thought it might have been a mistake, as I'm sure in the context it didn't seem like he meant dirt.

The very idea is inconceivable to our Elven overlords! Sharing the heavens with us? With man? Ha! They can barely tolerate our presence on earth!

Heaven <-> earth

Earth in the sense of a material realm, the mundane plane, made of dirt and dust, with it's people made of flesh and blood, unlike Talos who ascended to the world of spirit.

Talos is the true god of man! Ascended from flesh, to rule the realm of spirit!

It's rhetorical.

Wow! Thanks. That clears things right up. It is intentional.

Man, if you ever want an obscure question about this game answered, this forum is the way to go.

This also plays into my Bosmer character's dislike of the Stormcloaks. Also not a fan of the Thalmor though because they give all elves a bad name.
