Tips on good cluttering?

Hey guys.

As the title states I'm looking for some tips on good cluttering.

I'm working on a few dungeons for a mod I'm making and I must admit I ain't to keen on cluttering. I find it a boring and tedious process.
Besides that I have issues making a room come "alive" so to speak as the vanilla dungeons do. I got a clear plan in my head when I make the dungeon layout and I can describe what happens in each room, why the room is there and so on, but when it comes to the cluttering process the rooms usually ends up unsatisfactory.

I tried looking over the vanilla dungeons for inspiration and it makes sense when I look at them but as soon as I switch back to my dungeon I loose everything I had in mind.
What I generally have a big problem with is the small details. I place tables and beds and so on here and there, but then there is these small empty spaces which seems out of place and kind of ruins the vibe of the room. So I guess you could say it's really the real clutter that I'm having a problem with.

So anyone got any tips for easing it up and "filling up" a room without it becoming to packed.

Thanks =)
