I thought it would be fun to have a nice discussion regarding the novel: The Hobbit.

I chose this book because A: I'm reading it now and B: the Movie came out recently.

So, I'll get the discussion started. What do you think of Tolkien's literary style of writing? I personally find it an interesting change, having the author describe things as he percieves it and even offers his opinions of things. "It was a Hobbit hole- And that meant perfection."

Yeah he is slightly different in his story telling in the Hobbit. The golf bit being one thing that sets it apart from LOTR. I think author's opinions are ok. I just don't like the style of Lemony Snicket that much were much of the story is sort of told by the author as if he is in the story.

A lot of people I know criticize his pacing, but personally I'm a big fan of his slow and descriptive style. I am a bit of a Middle Earth fanatic, so I guess I just enjoy reading every little detail. Lost track of how many times I've read The Hobbit, but I definitely need to get around to reading it again. Honestly haven't done much reading for fun since way back in middle school.
