Mods that make Alduin's first attack dangerous?

Post » Tue Jan 01, 2013 5:22 pm

Although I pre-ordered Skyrim, I have played it very little (I'll get back to it when more DLC, patches and mods come out). The awful console GUI seems to have been fixed, but how about another thing that irked me:
The big bad dragon attacking during the tutorial was certainly dramatic. I fled into some tower, only to see a gout of flame burst through its walls, killing some hapless NPC. However, I could just stand there and take it. I suppose I could have roleplayed that I ought to get away from Alduin's bad breath, but nothing in-game compelled me to do so. I thought of the introduction to The Party - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Party_%28film%29 - where Peter Sellers plays an incompetent Bollywood actor who just refuses to die when he's supposed to. Hailstorms of lead descend upon him, but he blows his silly little bugle defiantly...

The battle outside was also a static Potemkin battle, and I took a stroll unharmed. The rats that are your first foes in TES IV are more dangerous.

If you get Deadly Dragons, all dragons become stronger including Alduin.

It's the tutorial. Most games don't go to lengths to kill the player during the tutorial. You're treated to weak enemies so that you can get your bearings and gather some equipment before you're thrust out into the world.

Exactly why do you want to implement something that will kill you over and over again when you can't even pick anything up yet?

As if your execution and the great black dragon wasn't enough motivation to get the hell outta dodge...

In this particular instance the events are scripted to be cinematic. If Alduin wasn't nerfed in the opening scene you'd be reloading an awful lot in the first 10mins and more people would be put off by that than this. Get past the opening scene and into the main quest and there will be ample opportunity for dragons to pwn you left and right.

Alduin can kill a character in the tutorial.

He bit and flung one of my newly minted characters into Oblivion.

Tip: Don't get too close to him.

Edit for typo.

There are several occasions during the tutorial where you can die... Plus, it's a tutorial, it's designed to ease the player in. However, if you're very stupid you can get killed easily. :P

When he breaks through the wall he can hurt and kill you, again when the little boy runs from the middle of the street to his dad, and again when he lands on the wall above that guy. All three times if you get in his way, he roasts you.

I'm not sure what the issue is... It's a perfect balance between tutorial easiness (Dont run in his way), and danger (You can still die). I think Beth did a perfect job.

Pretty much. But if you're adamant, grab the lore friendly version of Deadly Dragons, makes Alduin have the same damage output as a Legendary Dragon but with noticably higher health. Not something I would recommend you test, as you'd fry in about .5 seconds.
