HD Texture Pack still buggy

Post » Tue Jan 01, 2013 2:44 pm

Title says it all. Whenever I try to use the HD Texture pack, I still get missing textures (ie. certain items/objects will have that spooky purple colour). The other issue I get is constant CTD's every single time I try to load a new area (or load a save game). This only ever happens when the texture pack is activated. If I disable the 2 texture pack .esp's (from the Data Files) the issues dissapear like magic. I know a lot of people were having these issues when the texture pack was first released, but the patches were supposed to fix these problems. Here's my specs:

Windows XP 32 bit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
XFX nForce 780i motherboard
GTX 260 Black Edition (I think it has 896MB of VRAM if I remember correctly)
4GB of Patriot Viper RAM

All drivers are up to date, and Skyrim is patched to v1.8. Changing the graphics settings has no effect.

So whats the issue? Is my hardware too ancient? Does bethesda have rubbish programmers? Does Skyrim just hate Windows XP? I suspect the answer to all these questions is yes, but as to whether or not any of these things underly the root cause of this isue I have no idea.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8236, but yeah, it's unfortunate there been no official fix.

This is because the HD Texture pack require a lot of RAM, and will often and quickly run out of ram on 32bit Windows computers which then results in a crash. A 32bit OS can not address enough RAM needed, unfortunately. You could try http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9080 to see if it helps though.

Thanks for the reply Freddo. I had a feeling it had something to do with Windows XP, luckily though I'm gonna be upgrading to Windows 8 soon, so hopefully that should atleast take care of the CTD's.
