Kingdoms of Amalur - Steam and Origin and EA EULA

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) - I bought a disk for Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning and I'm wondering if I could use it to install with Steam (not Origins). I'm also wondering about your thoughts on game User License agreements.

More details....

Looking for a change from Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout, I heard Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning was a good game. In Nov I saw it was on sale for about $25, bought it and just went to install it. One if the first things it asks, is for me to say that I "read and agree to the EULA", Note it specifically says "read". Since it would be dishonest to check that box without reading it, I proceeded to read the rather long EULA.

Of course it wants to install EA Origins software. And then says things about getting my system info and distributing it, as well as possible problems that might result from installing. At various points it says in capital letters that if I don't agree I should not "install or run the application". Basically saying that I can't play the game I just spent $25 on. I don't think I could get a refund since I opened the package.

That just doesn't seem right. Anymore I intend to carefully avoid buying any product made or distributed by EA, no matter how good the reviews.

Anyway, I had just begun to accept Steam, I don't want Origins on my system too. Particularly with what I consider somewhat confrontational language in the EULA. I do see that Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is available via Steam. So that led to the above question about whether I could use the disk I paid for to install on Steam.

I'm guessing not, and if I want to use Steam I'll have buy it from them, And I just lost the money spent on my disk. If that's the case I guess I'll just wait for a sale on Steam and maybe buy it (right now it's about $60).

Comments on the EULA or Origins? Comments on how I might be able to use Steam for this game?

The disc version require Origin. To play the Steam version you need to buy the game directly from Steam (which tend to be more expensive as the game never really been on a Steam sale while it's been cheap on Origin a number of times already).
