New Characters & Diminishing Returns

I made a thread like this a few months ago, but after starting several new characters since then, I feel this way even more than I used to. I’ve put hundreds of hours into this game, across dozens of characters, and I did the same for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. But doing all of that… I’ve gradually grown incapable of starting the game over again. I’ve done everything that the game has to offer many times over, and there’s only so many times that you can play the same quests and explore the same dungeons without losing interest in them.

I promised myself a while back that if a DLC were released that gave us spears, I would play through the game again as an Argonian Dragoon, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to keep that promise. I made similar promises for the Fallout games, saying I would make one “complete” character once all of the DLCs were released, but I never did. By the time the final DLCs rolled around, I had played through the games with so many characters that it just wasn’t fun anymore. And now, that same thing has happened for Skyrim.

So I’m just curious: does anybody else feel the same? I’m not going to be making any new characters in Skyrim; I’ll play through the DLCs that are released, but chances are, none of the new equipment, powers or spells that they introduce will be enough to make me change my position. I guess it all boils down to how many times somebody can play the same game before they lose interest.

Sometimes you just need to take a break away from the game for awhile. I took a 2 month break from Skyrim and that helped when I came back and made a new character.

Go play something else till the next DLC comes out and them maybe you will want to start again, or just pick up where you left off.
