There is just something about Skyrim...

First, let me say this- I know that Skyrim is the technically superior game. But I still like Oblivion more.

There is just something about Skyrim that feels... off, and I can't quite put my finger on it. It's probably one of or a mixture of the following things-

1. Oblivion is a more connected experience. In Oblivion, when you open up your inventory or some menu, your welcomed by an interface that looks like it came right out of the world, perhaps an opened book or weathered piece of paper. Do the same thing in Skyrim, and you're welcomed by a harsh, modern UI that shatters your immersion and reminds you that you're playing a game.

2. Oblivions world feels better. The harsh snowy and rocky tundras of Skyrim prevented me from getting immersed with the experience. In contrast, Oblivion's warm forests and plains full of wildlife pull me in and allow me to really enjoy the game. Maybe its because I played It first, but Oblivion feels like a home, and Skyrim just another rpg.

3. Oblivion has better questlines. When playing through Skyrim, what stood out to me the most was how short and uninteresting the questlines were. Who could forget the long and memorable dark brotherhood is Oblivion? The same guild in skyrim felt like a chore to get through. The only parts of it I really enjoyed were the references to Oblivion's dark brotherhood.

4. Skyrim is too easy when you give it time. I am one of those people that likes to make my character as strong as possible. I can't bring myself to half-ass a game, just moving from one quest to another without improving my character. This was a problem. As soon as I got the best armor and two daedric swords, the game was too easy, even on master... and the sad part is that I'm a mage. Oblivion doesn't have this problem, most likely due to the poor level scaling system, but still.

That's all I am going to say. I probably would type more, but I'm actually writing this on my iphone.

In conclusion- There is just something about Oblivion that draws me in. I'm not sure if it's because of a reason I listed above, because as I said before, I can't quite place my finger on it. As anyone else had a similar experience?
