E3 2013 doesn’t begin until June 11, but Microsoft’s http://www.geek.com/articles/tagged/major-nelson has today kicked off a 158 day countdown timer on his blog along with the message “And it’s on…” You have to wonder why the build up is happening so early, and there can only really be one explanation can’t there? Microsoft is using E3 2013 to unveil the next http://www.geek.com/articles/tagged/xbox.
http://www.geek.com/articles/tagged/microsoft will obviously be making no comment on this until they decide to roll out the inevitable marketing campaign. It may be something other than a new Xbox, but that seems very unlikely. What else would you choose to countdown for 158 days?
Unveiling the console at E3 gives Microsoft almost 3 months for a major marketing push if a September launch is planned. We may get more than a few hints before E3 comes around, though. Surely the Major Nelson countdown isn’t going to be the only reminder Microsoft uses to suggest something big is planned for June.
