Back in Oblivion there were many sword mods which had drawn a lot of inspiration from the "long handled" swords used by the elves in LOTR (film.)

Skyrim features separate animations for battleaxes and two-handed swords. The animations for battle axes, with a wide grip, would work very well with this style of weapon.
