Scariest moments on the road you've experienced.

I have three. Two in my personal vehicle, the third driving a truck.

1) It was Christmas Eve back in 2007. I was driving through a dark curvy road that took me from Osceola County FL to Polk County FL. Anyways, some brilliant Polk County Sheriff's Department Deputy had the genius idea of turning his emergency lights on and speeding through the curves and going into the opposite lane to do so.

When the turn came, I saw nothing and then a cop cruiser directly in front of me going ridiculously fast. My only reaction was to swerve out of the road into a ditch.

The cop? Didn't give a ****. Kept going. Didn't even stop to see if I was ok. I'd really would have loved to catch his car number. I'd of sued the county and his ass into oblivion. I'd of had his badge on my wall as I type this as a trophy for that stunt he pulled.

2) This was in 2008 and was my fault. I got called into work early and was extremely tired. Driving on a two lane road, I fell asleep for like...2 seconds before waking up. Now, when I fell asleep I must have started to drift into the wrong lane. When I woke up, my first reaction was to, like a [censored], sharply swerve back into the right lane. I lost control, avoided hitting a truck (I'd of died if it hit me) and landed safely into some bushes. Not even a single scratch on my car but sure as hell woke me up.

3) This happened recently while I was driving. This particular load I was carrying was two "pups" from FedEx. Instead of a single 53 ft. trailer, pups are about less than half the size. I was carrying two connected by a dolly in the middle. These are a pain to drive because no matter how much of a flawless driver you are they swerve slightly. You can't avoid it due to the dolly. Anyways, I was traveling on a two lane county road downhill at about 40 - 45 MPH. On the opposite lane was another truck going up hill and a small hatchback sports car behind it and other vehicles behind it.

The hatchback driver apparently thought he was invincible and decided to pass the truck in front of him. I'm going downhill on a two lane road. Apparently, the dumb ass realized too late he didn't have enough time to pass the truck infront of him while avoiding my truck at the same time.

I remember my partner next to me going "Holy ****" when he saw the car's headlights. My reaction was to the hatchback driver "Sorry dude, you're f'ing dead. I'm am not swerving this rig out of control going downhill or slamming on the brakes so my trailers can fish tail and slam every vehicle on the opposite lane". Something special was on that hatchback driver's side. He quickly swerved into the grass, flipped his vehicle two times. Miraculously he survived.

For perspective, I knew if we collided I may have gotten hurt and more than likely would have survived. His little car? The truck I was driving would have left nothing but debris of his car on the road. I'd of completely obliterated his car. No way he would have survived.

Anyone else want to share stories?

Holy cow, thank goodness you are ok!

Being in a mild car accident in HS was scary (I was the passenger). Nothing I would really talk about, tbh...

Other than that, I have been with people that would not hit the brake until they are like 2 feet from the car in front of them. Drove me nuts! :ahhh:

When I was in the US I was riding in this old friends car in Orlando and we were both extremely drunk, he was driving about 100 MPH in a 50 MPH zone, a red light came on but it was way to late for him to stop in time, he ended up slamming into this guy in-front of us and both cars flew into the middle of the intersection. He just hauled ass away as soon as it happened but for about 2-3 seconds I thought for sure I was going to die.

You mean like when I was driving home late at night, fell asleep at the wheel, woke up going 70MPH about 50 feet from a huge abutment? If I had not twitched the steering wheel as a reaction and instead took anytime to think, well, I would not be here right now.

 Recently just seeing jackasses drive around like they own the road with no headlights or turn signals and swerving in the lanes

I see jerks do that all the time when it is raining/icy and the roads are deemed unsafe.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever experienced anything scary on the road. Either that or I'm incredibly brave.

One time we were partying with some guys, and we called a guy that could drive us home from the city. We were all pretty drunk, and it turned out that we were too many people to fit inside the car, so me and some other guy had to go back in the trunk. It was all pitch black and things were getting pretty intimate. I lost sense of direction and time, and to top it off I suffer from severe motion sickness.
