Getting married in Skyrim

This may already have been answered but I didn't want to look through 742 pages. How the heck do you get your character married? Mine is 53rd level and I've seen a few good possibilities, especially the tavern girl in Falkreath. In the pics for Hearthfire it looks like Ysdolda tending the kitchen. Do you need the persuade skill? I'm in line to pick it up although I don't knnow how it could possibly help, it doesn't look in the description as though it will allow you to start conversations. He has the 2000 gold coin ring he bought off of her for the Sanguine prank storyline I suppose though it's not in my inventory and I wouldn't know where to look for it if it's not.
So what's the answer? i know there's probably a lot of you who can help this poor lonesome PC out! :-) Since I have already adopted two girls they might as well have a mama as well as a papa.

Youll need to go to the tavern in Riften and buy the amulet of Mara from Maramal.
Then when youve done a quest for a person and youre wearing the amulet you should get the dialogue, if its someone you can marry.

Talk to Maramal in the Temple of Mara in Riften and ask him about marriage in Skyrim. Acquire an Amulet of Mara (you can buy it from Maramal). Find a likely candidate and wear the Amulet before speaking to them. If they're marriageable, they'll comment on it--just take it from there. For some people, you'll have to do a favor or a short quest. Some (like housecarls) you can marry right away.
