How liable unarmed combat really is?

Post » Mon Jan 07, 2013 9:55 am

Yes, I know you're all pissed off after the fact that there's no Unarmed skill tree. So, to all those who wanted it, let me ask you one thing:

Did you ever tried to punch a dragon to death?

Seriously, who would be suicidal enough (in-game) to go engage a dragon in unarmed combat? My guess is that, assuming you tried, you died a lot of times until you realized that you'd be better off with a weapon or a arsenal of spells.

Anyway, is there any more ways in which, outside of a beast form (werewolf or vampire lord), unarmed combat is a complete and utter liability?

Also, kudos to those who DID killed a dragon with their bare hands. Now, go grab a weapon and better your chances of survival.

actually i think an unarmed killcam of a dragon would be epic. dragon-chokehold-of-death for the win. or dislodging it's bottom jaw as it snaps at you for the kill cam. man. now i wanna go punch a dragon to death. or twisting it's head and snapping it's neck. the list could go on.

but also, giants would be a pain in the [censored] if you (like me) aren't good and kiting with melee.

It's not, they made it not viable when they removed hand to hand, I never used hand to hand in oblivion, but I liked the idea that I could become a kung fu master

A monk won't last long against a dragon.

says you. if unarmed were actually a skill it would be just as viable as dualwielding swords. still need to be in the dragons range with swords right? flipside is the slightly faster switching to spells/hands.

Realistically, neither should a knight. In fact, wearing all that metal ought to cook you alive in your own armor. Then again, I suppose you've never done a DnD campaign playing a monk, and witnessed the glorious moment of killing a dragon in 1 hit from quivering palm.

In oblivion it is viable because hand to hand damage fatigue and when fatigue go below zero they will get knockdown.

Damage wise is also fine, can mixing damage fatigue and disintegrate armor spell to help you more. I found in oblivion hand to hand is more fun than sword

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a video of a guy showing you how to maximize your fists so you can punch everything to death quite easily. It was actually quite hilarious to watch. Even dragons proved no match for him. It's on youtube somewhere. I can't he arsed to look for it right now.

Your argument is circular.

You think punching a dragon is stupid because unarmed is underpowered. There's no reason going on a giant, fire breathing lizard with a sword should work out but we roll with it because that's how the universe works. If unarmed were viable it'd make sense within the framework.
