Intro (if you are going to read this, read more than one sentence)
Spoiler
Why I'm doing this?
(@Bethesda) Well it's because Bethesda didn't want to put Fallout: New Vegas on sale during steam's winter sale. The other reason is that I think these issues are something that needs to be fixed if Bethesda wants to see me (and maybe some other people too) buying their games. The goal is post a new thread every day about something that is relevant to the game (so you ain't gonna see "there isn't enough nice looking clothes for mages") and is something that isn't criticised every week (hopefully). I will try to continue this untill there is a sale on new vegas (+all dlc, it's the dlc I really want).
Who am I?
The most accurate description people have called me would be "pc elitist troll". I like playing good games (and I don't just limit myself to one game or genre). I have been playing games since DOOM (although I was very young back then). Also I'm not a native english speaker so if something is confusing or has spelling mistakes I would be happy to hear your feedback.

today's topic is:
Sneak perks
I first thought writing about gold but was a thread about that http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1435493-inflation/. I also can't make a topic out of the entire stealth gameplay as that would be way too big topic. First I'd like to say that overall the perk system is a significant improvement over oblivion's linear character progression. On to the topic.
Here are the sneak perks:
http://wikigameguides.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim/wiki/Sneak-Perk-Tree-17297
I can see what Bethesda was trying to divide te perks into two categories, utility and dps. If we take a look at the dps perks which are backstab, deadly aim, assasin's blade we can see those are pretty basic damage buffs. I'm just wondering why there are 3 different perks which all just give passive damage boost? I see that people will point out that while the buffs are similiar they apply to different things but why you can boost sneak damage of a sword? a mace? War axe? On top of all this the perk doesn't actually require you to hit people in the back. Deadly aim gives you buffs to bows. Doesn't think anyone thin that deadly aim sounds like an archery perk not a sneak perk.
Lastly there is assasin's blade. A perk that gives you 1500% damage increase. I have never seen anything like this in my 15+ years of gaming. In my opinion it's the most reasonable perk in the entire skill tree. Why? Because it actually represents ”master assasin hitting his target were it hurts the most” quite well within the current game mechanics. If 15xdmg would be change to ignoring armor instead (like in SkyRe) it would create other problems due to how difficulty scaling currently works (enemies take less dmg on expert and maste but don't have more armor). The perk has the same issue as backstab not being backstab but other than that it's fine.
On to the utility perks. They are stealth, muffled movement, light foot, silent roll, silence and shadow warrior.
Stealth, muffeled movement and silence are all pretty basic sneaking based buffs which all share same issue. They become more or less obselete. Getting 100 sneak skill is propably the easiest and fastest thing to do in skyrim. 100 sneak already brings huge buffs to your sneaking and maxing out stealth is just waste skill points. Stealth would be better if sneaking wasn't so easy to begin with. The AI is just way too easy to fool. I once sneaked past a fire place which had a vampire almost looking directly at the fireplace (I mean cmon vampires have night eye and he couldn't see me). My huge shadow was casted over the table where he was having dinner (he ate bread).
Silence and muffled movent can be migated via gear or via other perks. In my adventuring I've found bunch of items which have muffled movement as an enchantment, you can enchant it yourself and atleast Dark Brohood gives you these items as reward. Silence becomes completely obselete if you deside put perk points into either of two armor trees. Unhindered and Conditioning not only provide same benefits but also an extra buff (armor has no weight=more inventory space).
Light foot, silent roll and shadow warrior are an odd bunch. First light foot is a double edged sword while it's nice not to release traps it also removes utility. It's always fun to lure draugr to a spike trap and then set it off and watch the comedy happen. On top of that I personally like the ”oh crap” moment. Light foot could have easily been ”detect trap” instead a perk that highlights traps while allowing you to still set them off.
I don't know what benefit there is to have silent roll. Cool animation? Allows you to RP as a horse? A poor implementation of dodge?
Shadow warrior. I feel that Bethesda was trying to do this:

or this

but ended up with this:

How is this sneaky? Wouldn't like a masquerade ability be cooler? Considering the wide veriety of factions and previous games masquerade I think would be easier to implement and work better in practise.
