I need help, particularly with a pure mage

Background:
I started with Oblivion and played the crap out of it, adapting quite well to the levelling system. No matter what type of character I made I was able to thrive.

I played some Morrowind, didn't really dig the mechanics, but loved the setting.

I've been playing Skyrim off and on since release, never have I been able to get past level 21, on any build (for some reason I go from Bucky Badass to Owned Owen somewhere between levels 10 and 20).

I play on Xbox.

Here's what I want:
I want to be able to play a pure mage without using exploits, and preferably without getting rolled regularly. I want to use magic fairly exclusively, conjured weapons are cool. Would like to be able to kill dragons, drauger, and machines.

I would also prefer to limit alchemy, cause I'm tired of gathering ingredients.

I have all the DLC.

Thanks.

Atronachs, Bound Bow, -flesh, Impact perk.

Build your character's gear with a focus on the skills you want to enhance, and don't neglect other available buffs like standing stones (Lord Stone is a BIG defensive help in the early levels) and prayer. Preparation becomes key when facing tough enemies.

I did one pure Mage play through and it was lots of fun. IMO mages have the most trouble at early levels but then start owning once you get the high end destruction spells. If your going all robes, no armor (as I do) your going to have to do a lot of back peddling and a lot of getting you butt kicked in large groups so bring along a tank atleast until you get spells like ice storm as this spells death for your followers. Don't worry about increasing stamina as you will rarely need it. Finally, get good at alteration because those protection spells will be your saving grace. That's all I got for now, the college of winterhold quests offer up some pretty great items to boost your magika too.
