Okay, so, clothing and armor body parts...

Toto, I don't think we're in Morrowind anymore.

So I downloaded the Creation Kit with the intent of playing around with clothing and armor, eventually probably adding something new but starting off with something small - like maybe fiddle with some hoods to allow Khajiit ears to show through the way they do on the maskless Shrouded hood, but I'm scratching my head trying to find the difference between the maskless Shrouded hood that leaves the ears visible and every other hood in the game. I can't find any kinds of tutorials on armor/clothing creation that explain the difference, either.

Can someone who knows what they're talking about try to give me a sense of how biped body parts in Skyrim actually work?

Try tinkering with the biped flags of the ARMO form. One of them being unticked (circlet, perhaps?) should make the difference.

Haven't looked so not positive but IIRC there is a checkbox for the ears slot in the settings and most hoods have it checked so that the hood removes the ears when it is equipped so to leave the ears in place you would remove that check from the ears slot check box (Note: not sure how the results would look on normal hoods as leaving the ears would result in them clipping through the hood at random places depending on the hood model)
