Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I am planning on building a gaming rig sometime this year. Should I opt for Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Go with Windows 8 unless you want to play older games. Windows 7 will be gradually phased out so best to get used to the next generation, it is also apparently more stable than Win 7.

Do I need Pro for Windows 8 or will standard suffice?

I'm still running 7 myself so I wouldn't know for sure, but for all intents and purposes standard should be fine.
