Wireless Connection question

Post » Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:57 am

The new computer I am getting has this:

Built-in 10/100 Ethernet LAN

Which is described as:

Allows a computer to connect to a network either by using cables (Ethernet) or wireless technology (IEEE 802.11)

My question is, will I be able to just use the WiFi in my house to connect to the internet or is this PC going to require cables? Fact is, I have no idea what this stuff means.

Thanks.

You will need a cable for that.

As Freddo said, you'll need a cable. My guess is that the description is implying that you can get an external wireless receiver and plug it into your computer's ethernet port, however it won't natively allow you to use wireless internet.

If this is a laptop, I quite frankly don't know of one that would not come with Wireless these days. The description is misleading on the adapter.

Most of them don't even make a big deal about it, as like a keyboard, it is a requirement for laptops now.
