Imagine gazing upon those beautiful Skyrim night skies, seeing those beautiful nebulas, those beautiful northern lights...but not from 10 feet away on a tv screen..BUT ACTUALLY ENTERING THE GAME WORLD SELF CONSCIOUSLY?

The Oculus Rift. Virtual Reality head set due for mass retail in 2014 (dev kits for early backers are being sent this Spring/Summer) and will cost 500$ at retail when released:

Skyrim has been confirmed to support the Oculis Rift.

Imagine how Skyrim can be transformed if this tech lives up to it's promise (impressions from various tech magazines at CES indicates that it does). Actually entering the world of skyrim through your own living eyes. Gaming will never be the same.

Impressions btw of the Oculis Rift at CES:

CNET: "Best demo at CES by far"
IGN: "Oculus Rift virtual headset is a game changer"
PopSci: "The Rift is certainly one of the most amazing things I've seen at CES this year--hell, any year"
PCWorld: "Oculus Rift

If anyone is interested in a summary of all CES coverage of the Oculus Rift, make sure to visit

Seems okay. I would rather relax than look like a fool swinging stuff and running

You can talk about this in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1423563-the-unofficial-kickstarter-and-other-funding-sites-thread/, though.

I doubt it. I don't remember anyone stating that Skyrim supports the Oculus.

When?

I'll find the link. There were a list of games that were confirmed to support it..mostly games with 1st person options..3rd person games don't really work well the illusion of being inside the world. I'll post it when I find it though.

If it does, I still won't use it though. I think virtual gaming is just a gimmick to get more money out you.

What's the point? I can look at all of that ingame and my chair is less than five feet from the tv.

So this. Really, what is the point of virtual gaming? To create the illusion like you're there? When I play TES games, I already know I'm there. TES is one of the few games out there were I can literally just lose myself in a fantastical world, unlike any other. I don't need some $300-400, virtual gaming headset to do that for me.

If Bethesda approves of this, I might give it a try. But what would happen is having nausea and puke after like, 6 hours of continuous playing. And probably being momentarily detached from reality for the next 2 hours... Imagine telling the cops that you're the Thane of Whiterun. :D

Attitudes like this push back the dawn of the day when we'll be able to enter full virtual environments. I know the holodeck is a fantasy, but we can can make something similar to it. As long as this "VR is a gimmick" mentality dies out. These are important stepping stones. You can't go from our current 2D gaming to the holodeck without making a few stops in between.
