The Rush Syndrome

Post » Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:03 am

I fear Zenemax will feel pressured to launch the game within the expected time framework - TESO being one of the most anticipated games - thus neglecting features such as game polish, UI responsiveness, optimization etc. This has happened before to online games when the community is overly hyped and insists to be given as much information as possible, so the company doesn't wish to disappoint them.

I would really hate to see that happen to TESO, since fans are bound to go nuts as soon as they get some basic information regarding classes and such and they will be screaming for a launch date. For all that is worth Zenemax, I personally wouldn't mind if you postopned the launch even till 2015 if necessary, as long as you take your time to do all that needs to be done. If halfway through development you decide some major feature needs overhauling or complete replacement you have my blessing (xDDDD) to completely scrap it and start over.

I hope more people will join my plea and let Zenemax know that we'd rather have a complete product instead of a half-baked bagel! Take your time and knock us off our feet when the game is done!

ESO has already been in development for around 6 years, development started shortly after Oblivion was released so I don't think we need to worry to much about it being to rushed...

I doubt they need to rush, they have a huge company with extra deep pockets behind them that chose to go this route. Its not like a small company with backers that want their investment back this second. ESO being the first MMO from them, Iam sure they are more about gettting it right than hurry up and toss anything out there.

What the OP is forgetting is the game is made and published in house, we are not talking about a game made by ZeniMax and then published by EA. I wish people would actually stop and think about what they are saying.

Well 6 years is a long time, I didn't know that. But as GW2 came out only a few months ago I believe Zenemax can learn a lot from the mistakes ArenaNet made. Question is if Zenemax said "Ok guys, we've just realized there are a few things we really need to work on and we need to postpone the game till 2015." would the fan base complain? Would you? :D

Depends on what they plan on adding, however you need to remember also that the longer they delay release the more technology out distances their game and then the more changes they might have to make to keep up with technology...

I have the same concerns OP.
So often we see products rushed to meet the deadline. I've never quite understood that...in theory the development team is rushed for financial reasons, but won't taking your time to make the best game possible have greater financial return in the end? Great games, great movies, great art sell because they are great, not because they are timely.

True, but if they said they needed to polish up the UI because it was too sluggish; further optimize characters so they don't create a huge drop in fps in huge mash ups; change projectile ballistics so they are more responsive in terms of hitting the first enemy they encounter; work on class balance; deepen end game content and make PvP arenas with proper ladders; and if they said they needed another year-year and a half to do that, would you complain?

Well if they had to do all of that what have they been doing for the past 6 years? I see what you are saying and I hope they do not rush things and take the time they need but delaying unitl 2015 I don't think is in their plans at all.
