Gaming Debates with Double Standards

"Cheap."
"Overpowered."
"Underpowered."

And anything else that falls into such categories of gamer lingo to describe something as good, bad, unfair or what have you.

The reason this thread was created was to get your views on some of the debates you have seen in your gaming experience, whether it pertain to single or multiplayer examples.

What do I mean in the title by double standards? Well, here's my example:

Talking about the balance of games, tier lists, etc, etc with a friend of mine. He pulls up the classic term "that move is cheap," (referring in this instance to projectiles in fighting games). He goes on a small tangent (not a dumb one, a well worded one) about how the player should engage the opponent and not throw fireballs, despite the fact that the fireball is an effective move. I then question, because he was playing Battlefield 3 during said debate, why he was using a Sniper Rifle and not for instance, his knife or a pistol or just any other shorter range weapon. He replies that a Sniper Rifle is more effective and "is part of the game."

My query then, was why are fireballs not allowed the same rules as Sniper Rifles.

His reply?

"They are cheap."

Anything that kills me is cheap and overpowered and shouldn't be used.
