New install: STEP or manual?

I'm installing Skyrim again after a very long break (last time I played was about a year ago) and, of course, am looking for mods to enhance my game. I happened upon STEP and I'm wondering whether it's a good choice, or do you rather recommend installing mods on my own?
STEP seems easier to do, but I'm kinda worried about compatibility (especially with stuff I add in the future) and losing control over what's in the game.

My PC is a i5 2500K, 16GB RAM, GTX260 (soon to be replaced by a GTX660).

STEP doesn't install mods for you (last I saw). It only recommends mods for you to install.

How you install them is up to you. You have four choices:
1. Manual installing by hand.
2. Use BAIN feature of Wry Bash (best option).
3. Use Nexus Mod Manager (mod must be hosted there unless you repackage them).
4. Use Steam Workshop to install them (only the limited kinds of mods available there).

My biased preference is http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1084204-bain-mod-installation-projects/ (works the same for Morrowind, Oblivion, and both fallouts).
