Duel wielding? what is the point?

Post » Thu Jan 17, 2013 8:48 pm

i don't know if beth have officially stated that duel wielding was a last minute addition, but i believe in quality over quantity, and if the couldn't devote more time to it, the shouldn't have but it in.

-pressing one button, to use one of your swords is faster that trying to alternate between them.
-alternating does not increase speed or damage
-the power attack roots you to one spot as you hope the the enemy doesn't shimmy backwards
-using slow time and other supportive shouts to defend this, is a cop out.
-I can't see my second sword sheathed and this annoys me because im trying to roleplay. beth talk to me.

if you like to roleplay a duel wielding character, obviously you're are gonna try to duel wield. i certainly did. other than that, it is completely inefficient and i can't see why anyone would continue to use this defective playstyle.

You're kidding?
It is the absolute highest damage dealing system in the game.

wouldn't you like to see duel wielding fully fleshed out? like, i dunno. moving forward whilst power attack <---and this is just a little thing, that could go towards improving it.

Equip a dagger on the left hand for maximum speed, and any high damaging weapon on the right hand, such as a mace.
When you use double power attacks [clicking left and right buttons at the same time], you'll swing as fast as if you were wielding two daggers.

Also, elemental fury is THE shout for dual wielders. You can dispatch ANYTHING in a matter of seconds by using it and then spamming the dual wielding power attacks.

Dual wielding is the best damage dealer in Skyrim. Your enemies will be dead before they even get the chance to swing at you, if you know what you're doing. Including dragons.

i already knew that. but do you find that fun, instead of repetitive? and doesn't being unable to move while power attacking annoy you?

I've tried it a few times, and though if you do connect with every hot it is very powerful, it just feels clumsy and clunky and awkward. I find I miss with at least one hit in the combo most of the time, and once you begin it, you are stuck in one place. And as you said, taking individual swings is no faster than a single weapon. I just don't see the point.

being unable to block is also annoying. i know some people see it a sacrificing the ability to block for the ability to deal more damage. i think deflecting by parrying and timing would have been cool, if they could make it work.

That would make it a little unbalanced compared to sword and board and 2-handed. It's fine the way it is and is highly effective.

I fail to understand the comment on it being the same speed as swinging a single weapon. You need the perks and actually equip 2 weapons.
