How to setup a mage?

Post » Sat Jan 19, 2013 1:14 pm

I was a warrior, a mighty dederic armor wearing beast...then i saw the light and gave up my trusted legendary gifts for......magic!

Im level 35 , completed the dragborn DLC (which was great btw!!)... I have *magicly* reset my skils to take up magic...i was thinking of trying this conjure style out..

Can any one be so kind to how i should setup my perks? tips on playstyle and what type of armour i should wear? Any tips or fun stuff to try would be great!

I was tempted to just start fresh but with the reset perks i thought would take advantge of it as i have put so many hours into the game already

Normally Mages use Alteration, Destruction, Restoration. Few will say Conjuration and Illusion. Both are viable. Since you reset your perks, I assume you have very little Magicka, and alot of Stamina.

I think it would be better to start fresh.

I think its alot more possible, you say you were a Warrior correct? It would be much easier IMO, to go from a Warrior to an Archer.

Depends on how much magic you want to go. If you wanna go full mage, then i suggest not wearing any armor. Mage robes for extra magicka and magicka regen are the way to go for pure mages. Plus the flesh spells in alteration can go up to 3 times the armor rating (i think) with the perks, as long as you arent wearing armor.

But yeah, i dont know how the reset system works, but if it doesnt reset your health/stamina/magicka, then you're gonna be a real [censored] mage, and i would highly recommend starting a new character instead..

All my pure mage characters (5 of them), i have spent every single level in just putting up magicka, no health or stamina. And even then, at level 40-50, im still running out of mana from time to time. If you have lets say 400 health, 250 stamina and 100 magicka, then you are gonna have some real hard times as a mage, and not even be able to cast the most basic of spells.

I also really like the high elves as mages too, because they have an ability that makes it so you basically have unlimited magicka for 60 seconds.

How is your enchanting skill?

With a high enough magicka reduction form enchanted gear, you could make a very powerful mage with very little additional magicka. Just put every level from now on into that.

EDIT : Besides, you can easily enchant armor to equal or even bypass any robes found. I have always favored a Plate Mage personally.
