Devil May Cry - What Do You Think Of The Reboot?

Post » Sun Jan 20, 2013 6:12 pm

So Dante's back and the devils are crying again and you know what?

I'm finding it to be much better than I ever thought it would be.

For a series reboot I don't think they did a bad job at all.

How are you guys finding the new Dante and the direction Ninja Theory have taken the series?

Not interested. I'm just wondering why they felt the need to give the series a reboot in the first place. Or give the iconic protagonist everyone loved a wildly different character design.

I haven't played it, but I'm mildly interested. As much as I liked Devil May Cry 4, I was open to the idea of a reboot; I'm just not sure Ninja Theory were the right developers for the job. Their games have never been particularly good in the gameplay department, instead offering decent stories, but from what I've seen the story in DmC is as bad, if not worse, than Capcom's Devil May Cry, while gameplay (which Capcom apparently lent a hand with) basically emulated the old series, stripped it of its difficulty.

It's because of the gameplay that I'll be giving it a go after a Steam sale. I thought the story and characters looked awful even from trailers, but even a number of reviews have expressed disappointment, so it's probably not just my [censored] taste this time.
