Character Build: The Revenant

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:44 am

The fog of war is thick, the stench of death thicker. The ground is drenched in blood and littered with bodies of the dead. Crows circle around the battlefield but dare not touch down, for one is still very much alive... He is the Revenant, a warrior of unparalleled fury and hate and the single cause of such devastation. He stands in a circle of scorched bodies; indeed, the blood-soaked ground is burned from his magic. From underneath his helmet his red eyes shine, and he lets out his unbridled rage in an inhuman cry.

The Build
This is sort of a spellsword build. The focus is on high damage from a two-handed weapon (ideally Volendrung or the Longhammer) and supplementing it with damage over time spells such as Flame Cloak and Wall of Flames. Combined with very high defenses, you have a nearly unstoppable force of destruction.

Race: Doesn't matter a ton, but I highly recommend Orcs. Orcs are capable of dishing out the highest amount of damage in the shortest amount of time
Combat Skills: Heavy Armor, Two Handed, Destruction
Other Skills: Smithing, Enchanting
Armor: Ebony Mail + ebony everything else. The Ebony Mail adds more (free) DoT to the build
Weapons: The Longhammer is the highest DPS weapon in the game. It swings nearly as fast as a one-handed weapon and has a higher base damage than a Daedric sword. Combine that with Elemental Fury and Berserker Rage and you have an incredibly powerful weapon. I'm surprised more builds don't do this.
Shouts: Being Dragonborn is completely optional to this build, but Elemental Fury brings the Scourge to it's full potential.
Spells: Flame Cloak, Wall of Flames, Fire Storm

Also, for the sake of roleplaying I suggest playing this character as a vampire.

Gameplay
Make sure you always have Flame Cloak active. For most battles you won't need to cast Fire Storm at all, so just throw up a circle of flaming destruction and cut down anything that comes close to you. For more difficult fights, cast Fire Storm and Wall of Flames, use Elemental Fury if you have it and Berserker Rage and go to town. It's a relatively simple style of play, albeit with a decent amount of spell swapping.

Perks
Heavy Armor: Max this tree. Putting the last four perks in Juggernaut isn't a concern until later in the game.
Two-Handed: Go straight up the tree. Perks in Limbsplitter, Deep Wounds, and Skull Crusher are unnecessary.
Smithing: Straight up the Heavy Armor side to Ebony Smithing, and Arcane Blacksmith
Enchanting: All perks except Soul Squeezer and Soul Siphon.

You'll want to get 100% reduced Destruction cost ASAP so points in Magicka aren't necessary (though very useful for leveling). Magicka should be set at a max of 200, as should Stamina. The rest goes into Health.

Enchantments:
For your armor, add health regen, stamina regen, and fortify Destruction to as much as you can. Fortify Two-Handed on your gauntlets. For the Longhammer, I like Fire Damage and Absorb Health.

I have yet to test this on Master difficulty. I'll do that sometime and see how it goes, then I'll post an update.
