They are as viable as any other weapon type. Perhaps more so than most thanks to dual wielding and the ability to use a free hand for magic or a shield.

You can definitely do fine without utilizing dual wielding or shields.

They can be just as good as two handers and are far more versatile. Damage is Damage so I'm not exactly sure what your looking for... You hit people with 1h weapons and they die.

Well, that gives you a free hand for magic so that's usefull. Personally I think dual wielding is kinda awkward and feel better with one weapon, more control that way. I think there's some cool finishers that can only be done without a shield so that's a plus.

Well one handed is basically a faster, if slightly weaker version of two handed.

hmm ive seen people on youtube tht just use everything effectively they switch from 2h to 1h with magic or shield and still [censored]? im kinda confused how they did this as u only have so much points to give to the skill trees

or am i following guidelines to much and u can just put points in everything u want?

When you compare loot, 1h vs 2h, it feels that 1h was given more unique weapons thus making it the better choice.

I like both either way, but I like using weapons that are unique or that are earned.

there are more then enough points to perk out both trees. I personally have done it on one of my characters, the game is forgiving enough if you do it.

It's strong no matter what. I have a Reduard character who uses nothin but a scimitar at level 48 and he's a power house. You just have to take the right perks.

1h mace because I enjoy smashing faces in. But yea 1h weapons are great in this game. Don't toss out the idea of a shield either because they work great in this game and blocking is extremely well done and very fun to use. But 1h with magic or 2 1h are also great options.
