Item Binding

Post » Fri Jan 25, 2013 5:35 am

I don't remember but will TESO have any sort of item binding (per character, account, etc) that prevents trading?

I'd kinda like to see an mmo that doesn't character bind items. I know someone could buy their way to the top but that only goes so far. IE level restrictions to equip, professional restrictions to upgrade (learn if it's a pattern).

Reason is I want to see a vibrant economy. Upgrades are no longer vendored but traded or sold to another player.

I have a feeling that many people want item bindings. But I'd like to hear others' point of view.

I don't see how anything could be soulbound when we don't have soul to bind it to. :)
But seriously it'd be cool if there was a way to unbind an item, and resell it to another player instead of having to vendor it when it's outlived it's usefulness. I'm all for recycling.

I don't mind Bind on Equip items, but Bind on Pickup is rather annoying.

I hate anything that prevents trading. The only, only exception I would make is for quest items.

So that you can't accidentally sell it while you're still using it?? IDK, now I feel dumb.

I don't like item binding at all - no BOP (bind on pickup) or BOE (bind on equip) or even BOA (bind on account)...no any kind of bind.

What is the purpose of binding anyway?

I'm not an MMO vet by any means. I never understood it.

Seems to be mainly about forcing players to run raids themselves and not send alts gear or sell raid gear on the AH. Some people like it because they claim it stimulates the economy...but whether people have to buy items new each time or buy it second hand doesn't seem like a huge difference to me - it's still money changing hands between players (probably even better actually, rather than items getting trashed or items being sold to an npc).

There are two primary reason:

1. So you have to earn it yourself. (can't buy it off someone else)
2. So only one character can use it.

Basically, powerful players could hand off their old, powerful gear they've already used to their new friends, making it unfair for new players who don't have any handouts. Binding at least allows trading, but only until the player actually uses the item. It's also a gold sink.
There are other reasons too I believe, but I can't remember the best logic behind it.

The big difference with TES is that item power has never been as significantly different as it is in other games. Hell, if you worked hard enough for it you could make just about any armor in Skyrim hit the armor cap. I figure for regular items, binding is not necessary. Enchanted items however could be.

I see.

Makes sense actually.

I suppose I am in favor of item binding then.
