Antibiotic Apocalypse

Post » Fri Jan 25, 2013 12:43 am

We've all heard about global annihilation through nukes, zombies, global warming, and whatever else our creative little minds can come up with. Now imagine a new scenario where the majority of our medical arsenal fails and even a simple cold can send you to the grave.

Apparently that's a very possible future: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21178718

Bacteria deceases are becoming resistant to antibiotics because we're using too much of the stuff for nothing. There will come a point when most of our medical achievements will be useless against these "super bugs". I believe this was already mentioned by the WHO in 2011, but this fresh warning prompted me to share it.

I'm noticing a pattern here: Man receives gift/resource. Man abuses gift. Gift kills man.

This is a good time for biological warfare.

I've had the cold numerous times, and I've never used anti-biotics, yet I'm still here.

Or at least rarely, I'd say.

This has been a known problem for a good while. People totally freak out over the smallest disease and bacteria, and gets their doctor to write out antibiotics for them.
Antibiotics aren't necessary when you have a simple cold or if you sneeze once in a while.

Stupidity.

I don't think I've ever taken antibiotics. Oh, I think I did once when I was a kid.
