PC users can now pre-order Dragonborn on http://store.steampowered.com/app/226880/ahead of the release on the 6th of February.

Prices are $24.99 for Australians, $19.99 for the USA, ?13.99 for the UK and €19.99 for Europeans. So it looks like the Europeans get the worst deal here.

What is the point of preording a digital download? It's not like their going to run out of inventory...

It gives you the option to pre-load (you download the thing before it comes out, saving you time when it does come out) just before release. Sometimes there's promo-material, too.

I don't see any incentive to pre-order this. No discounts, no special items or whatever... might as well just wait.

I'm not going to buy it anyway until the first Unofficial Dragonborn Patch gets released... as has been tradition for any Beth game purchase throughout these years.

It is such a sad state of things that with the exception of the base game (since I pretty much buy TES games day 1 just to get my feet wet), I have come to just not trust any vanilla Beth release anymore... unofficial patches have become compulsory for me... :/

Pre ordering has never been about getting little extras, its about paying for something your going buy while you have the income to spare.

Plus steam lets you pre download when you pre order things so soon as it hits 12am you can start playing. *runs to preorder*

Also I suggest every Australian, New Zealander, and European player hold off on buying Dragonborn. We should not be getting charged more than US players, it is not Steam who control the prices, it is bethesda who is doing the price gouging! They have no right to charge us more than US Players.

It seems to be an industry standard, though, so there's got to be some reason for it. There could not be, but I don't see the gaming industry just deciding they hate Oceania or Europe.

Bunch of reasons. Most apt answer is probably "Because they can". Digital Downloads tend to mirror retail prices (in Australia at least). An expansion used to be sold here for about $40-50, so the $25 price for a large DLC is probably just an adjustment of that.

You are not going to get a price change out of them, and it is still a lot better than the retail prices where Australians pay double the USA price for the same game. You pay the same slightly inflated price for any other digital download, why should Bethesda be cheaper? The Australian, New Zealander, and European console players also have to pay more than the Americans.
