Being able to make a camp. Yes like camping in the woods or in a field. If you log out in the woods, field, swamp etc you could consider that you are camping or a campsite could be a base of operations for any single character or guild on the move. This is also an idea as an alternative for housing. In my opinion campsites would be more appropriate and realistic for what we are doing in the game. Leaving our homes to adventure or go to war and then suddenly having to run a thousand miles back home to get a bit of food or hang a picture is not realistic. Having a campsite to store things, cook food etc is a realistic idea.
We would be able to set up a camp with the many different objects one would possibly find at a campsite. Players would choose how big or how small their campsite would be which would be an advantage over housing. Purchasable items from in-game vendors, player crafters would be our methods towards getting items for the campsite.
1. A character must purchase a quartermaster (hireling) in-game or obtaining the quartermaster from a series of quests. The quartermaster would be summoned and upon arrival he would set up the camp.
2. After the camp is set up then a character can customize by placing banners and such or other decorations. Decorations for the camp would be purchased from in-game vendors or players with the appropriate crafting skill. We would be able to purchase real storage chests for our characters stuff. This would allow us to stay in the field longer. We would be able to store food and rations. The kind of stuff we would take with us for a long haul while we head to war.
3. After a character was done with the campsite one would only tell the quartermaster to pack up the camp and he/she would do so. Then you’re ready to travel.
Logging out would mean the camp automatically would go away until you summon it when you log in next. Also moving so far away from camp would mean the camp getting dismissed. If not the landscape would be littered with campsites all day (might not be an issue). So your quartermaster and campsite goes with you wherever you go.
Given that if we have horses or are able to own more than one horse or other kind of mount that the mounts would be included with our campsite and under the care of our quartermaster THUS when we have our campsite pitched our mounts would be tied off on a hitching post or rail. That would look neat.
Picture this, you as a player enter Cyrodil to engage in battle and what you will see is something that would look totally real. Armies of players, horses, campfires, tents, smoke and the whole lot right before your eyes. This is realism.
Think about this. What if campsite could be attacked and destroyed by enemies be it other players or monsters? The camp then could be a money sink for players just like equipment that gets damaged. Once again realism to a degree.
Again the campsite could be an alternative for Character housing. What do we use housing for anyway? To meet friends at a central location, decorating for fun, added storage, fun for the feel of roleplaying. This can all be gotten with campsites as well and it would seem more appropriate.
Your campsite grows in size with your character as your character progresses in levels and wealth.
A base of operations for a character or if multiple characters had campsites then a guild or team could have a rendezvous of sorts if they were Role-playing (just having fun) or were on a dungeon assault(once again a base of operations). As for a dungeon assault it would be nicer because we could pillage and when our bags filled up we could place some of the stuff back at camp and then continuing with the dungeon. In other words, another way to stay in the feild longer without having to go back to town.
It helps out with more storage space and while we have a chest or two to store in at the campsite it allows us to stay in the field longer instead of having to run back to a place to sell our loot every time our inventory fills up.
Other uses for a campsite:
Capture the flag: A competition against two different teams or a competition against guilds.
Mock war: Against teams or guilds where the object of the game is to destroy the opponent’s campsite.
Crafters could craft right there at their campsites, although toting a forge around seems a bit too much to me.
If the game allows for fishing and cooking then it would seem too normal to cook at a campsite.
It just adds to the fun of role-playing.
Think about it this way. We are all leaving home to adventure and to go to WAR. Thus we are leaving our homes behind. Are you the kind of person that’s going to amass a literal fortune but be so cheap not to get a bedroll and tent? I didn’t think so.
There’s my pitch.
