How to go from high settings to ultra?

Post » Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:04 am

Hey guys, so I was wondering the following. I love Skyrim and I want to be able to play this game on ultra (and it would be awesome if I could use multiple high texture mods with it). Right now I play the game on high settings with a couple of mods that make Skyrim look better (W.A.T.E.R mod Climates of Tamriel etc.) Now these are my pc specs:

CPU - AMD FX 8120 Eight-core processor 3.10 ghz

Medion MS 7741 mainboard

6GB Ram

NVIDEA GeForce GTX 560 1024mb graphics card

I don't know if these specs are enough to give you guys an impression of my pc (If you need more information just say so and I'll add them)

Now my question, what do I have to change to get the ultimate Skyrim feeling and get all the settings as high as possible while having a more or less constant FPS of 60? Is it the RAM? The videocard (which is just new, would be a shame if I had to buy a new one again)? Is my processor not fast enough?

It would be greatly appreciated if someone would give a (detailed) solution to be able to run Skyrim at the highest settings :)

Thanks in advance!

I don't see why you aren't able to run on Ultra with your current build. I've got nearly identical components and I'm able to run Skyrim on Ultra. The only differences I see between our builds are the processor I have is a Phenom II 4 core, the video card I have is the GeForce GT 560 OC 2056mb Card. I can even run Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter on Ultra though my rig doesn't like it.

Simply put, you'd be hard-pressed to find a PC that can run Skyrim on all ultra settings with a constant 60 FPS as the engine is just not very well optimized. Even though your processor is near the top of AMD's hierarchy, it's nothing particularly special in comparison to Intel's Ivy Bridge processors, however there shouldn't be much stopping you from running the game on ultra with FPS around 40. I'm running a Phenom II X4 as well, though my HD 6970 is more powerful.
