Good Gaming Laptop for $800?

Post » Tue Jan 29, 2013 3:53 pm

I'm aware that this is slightly off topic, yet I am very desperate. Does anyone have any suggestions for a gaming laptop that will be able to run ESO will be able to maintain high fps while on atleast medium graphic settings?

Since the game is still in full development we don't know what the required ... ehm... thingies are. So we don't know what kind of pc can handle what.

These are the ANTICPIATED system requirements. It may require more, or it may require less. We don't know what it will need until there's an official announcement.

Try asking in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1435536-the-community-tech-thread-no-124/. We don't know ESO's minimum settings yet, but they'll at least be able to recommend a good laptop in that price range.

I'm getting my college laptop pretty soon and my budget is 800 so while it needs to be good for general use I'd like one that is atleast decent

Also will do Senor!

Well you don't want to buy a gaming lap top so you can play it on min. You need to at least be able to run it on balanced or mid setting, min settings does not mean it will run great it just means the game will actually work.

I think this is as good as it gets with that budget my friend http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-cx61-0nf258us-p-5391.html

You need to first consider a couple of questions:
1) How important is battery life?
2) Do you want to run your games at 1920x1080, or would you be OK running games at lower resolution, such as 1366x768 or 1280x720? (For comparison, the current gen consoles render most games at 1280x720 resolution.)
3) How important is the weight, thickness and screen size? Are you going to be traveling a lot with this laptop? You might want to check out some store displays to get a sense of the size and weight that would be comfortable for you.
4) How soon do you need it?

There are some gaming oriented desktop replacement type laptops which are rather large and bulky but with the top of the line graphics cards, comparable to desktops. And then there a number of more portable mid-range laptops (most are around $1,000 or so) that can handle most games at 1080p just fine.

If you don't mind gaming at 1366x768 or 1280x720, you will have more options available that are well within your budget. Even the HD4000 Intel integrated graphics reportedly can handle many games at 1366x768 or 1280x720.

If you need a laptop soon, my suggestion would be to keep your eyes open for a sale and try to get a laptop with 1080p display, quad core Ivy Bridge CPU and graphics card along the lines of Nvidia 650m, 660m, AMD 7730m, 7750m, or better. Here is ahttp://www.pc-erfahrung.de/grafikkarte/grafikrangliste-notebook.html. The GPU in my laptop is ranked #47 on the list and it handles nearly every game I've ever tried at 1920x1080 resolution just fine, so look for something higher than #47 on the list and you should be OK.

I've seen the Lenovo Y580 on sale for $899 with i7-3630QM and Nvidia 660m, also the hp dv6t Quad Edition with Nvidia 650m and 1080p display for similar price. Alternately you may want to consider buying a refurbished or used gaming desktop replacement laptop.

If you have some time to spare, you may want to wait for the next generation of laptops with Haswell processors to drop around May or June. Reportedly, the Haswell GT3 integrated graphics will run many games at 1080p resolution.

I would really suggest going with a PC. Everyone thinks they're going to need a laptop for college and then you never end up bringing it anywhere. In fact the few people I've seen using them in class or either doing work for other classes that they procrastinated on or just screwing around on the internet.

A desktop is more bang for your buck. I got mine for about $700 and can run pretty much a anything.

I remember your thread a while back. What did you end up getting?

I second the desktop PC idea. Although the idea of having a laptop seems super awesome, it's not. I'd recommend using that money and invest it towards a desktop PC and a tablet.
