Weather and the seasons

Post » Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:43 pm

I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls games so I don't know how they handle this but ....

Will we have hot days? Cold days? Cloudy days? Rainey Days?

Will we have spring, summer, fall and winter?

How did they handle that in the single player games?

What kind of holidays are there in Tameril?

I doubt seasons but there'll be a variety of weather. Maybe even a few sandstorms in morrowind.

Good subject, I don't have any answers for you just a rhetorical question. What if they don't have a day and night cycle? That'd be pretty lame, wouldn't it?

I'd like a day and night cycle coinciding with the timezone of the server and snow/rain when regionally applicable. I don't think that's too much to hope for. Now having sandstorms, blizzards and possible rare tropical storms would would be. We'd be lucky to even get that in the next installment of the single-player ES game. Lol

The videos suggest a day/night cycle. I started a thread on this a while ago and people had some nice evidence :D

There was a definite night time in the videos, as well as a definite day time, so I'd assume there will be day/night cycles. I don't think there will be seasons, but each area will probably have a general static climate. Temperature can be concluded from the climate, but there won't be different temperatures on different days unless you role play it, which I encourage you to do.

This is all speculation, but has been done with other MMO's. I expect this of an Elder Scrolls game, since each province should be distinct.

Wouldn't mind some dynamic weather but not every MMO has it.

Something like Vanguards system would be nice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV8WRqTaEe8

seasons and weather improvements are usually some of the first mods to be created for a fresh TES game. I think it would be too much for ESO though, cause that would require updating all the sky textures and trees (mostly the vegetation) and adding snow/leaves to the ground and buildings and such. I can see seasonal weather as being plausible, though: rain in the fall and spring, wind (if they have a wind generator) where appropriate for the biomes, snow in the winter in non-skyrim zones or where appropriate and such. But that's a bit much, i think.
