Need some ES Lore

Post » Fri Feb 01, 2013 5:16 am

Hail all,

So I'd say that I am an elder scrolls fanatic, only things that out do elder scrolls are consumating a relationship and anything Tolkien. But here's my issue, I'm already creating a guild, creating my character and writing fan fiction on my guilds web site...however, I lack a little skill in my lore. Sure I know the basics, about how the Dunmer and Nords don't really get along, let alone Nords hate damn near anything with pointy ears. The Khajiit like their drugs...etc..However, if I am going to create a true role-play character..I need to know everything. Where can I go to look at each races history, their relationships with each other, how they act, what they wear, what are the most common personality traits...etc. I need an ES Loremaster. Please help.

and this isn't intended as a guild recruitment, but feel free to visit the webpage to join if you'd like. We're a PvP guild. but seriously, no pressure, the Lore is my priority.

Thank you,
Konungr Norend Caloss

UESP provides information that is presented in-game. Lore section here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Main_Page

Imperial Library has in-game info along with some... other stuff http://www.imperial-library.info/

If you have any specific questions, you are welcome to PM me and I will answer all questions (I have a knack for explaining TES lore)

Addendum to the above: Use UESP if you're looking for specific in-game details, like where to find an NPC or something, but for lore, use the Imperial Library. UESP has a bunch of half-truths and unconfirmed speculation, and is just generally not a good place to go for lore information.

TIL on the other hand has every in-game book. And, of course, ask in the Lore forum here if you have any questions and people would be glad to clarify things for you.

Imperial library also has speculation, mind you. Both sources do. And UESP also has all in game books.
My main problem with Imperial Library is that it updates incredibly slowly. Much of the lore presented in Skyrim has yet to implemented
Also they link User based theory's along side game proven information

Truth^ OP, just read and you will pick up a lot of info

Feel free to come to the lore forum. If people start spewing monkey-truth at you don't mind it. If I am online I will answer your quarries or learn with you. TES lore is DEEP and extensive. Keep in mind you could spend a good chunk of time everyday studying up on it and by the time TESO rolls out you won't have learned all of it.

I would stick to reading the books in-game and to events that you experience in-game. TES lore acts much in the same way as history. Pretty much everything has a bias attached to it and it usually requires multiple sources to get to the true account of something. Even then it is no guarantee.

There are also a number of theories that help to explain much of what we experience in game or read in books. I don't mean theories in the general sense, but in the scientific sense.

Good luck. Enjoy the series. Take what TESO shows you with a grain of salt. Given the scale of the game they cannot do true justice to the cultures in the game like the Single Player games attempt to.
