You have to delete all the DLC, game if it is installed, patch and clear the system cache. You are after a nice clean install so the game runs better, so everything has to be fresh, and yes it works. You will still get the occasional freeze, which has always been a glitch in the game. And there is as usual a few spots in the DLC likely to cause problems under certain circumstances. If all you are getting now is the occasional freeze and other than that your game runs fine, I would say not to do it. It is more for when you get endless loading screens, lots of freezes and your game starts playing a bit like a slide show with lots of stops and starts and slow motion.
In other words your game has become unplayable, you have already turned of autasaving and are desperate enough to play some more Skyrim, you will think all that time and internet usage is worth it. i played with the constant freezing and stop and start gameplay for a fair while before I got desperate enough, my internet is pretty slow.
