Has anyone found out who meets you at midnight?

When I went there, (Don't remember if it was at midnight, though,) there was some merchant. He was wearing a guard helmet, ebony armor, and steel boots / gauntlets. He didn't sell anything too remarkable, BUT he did have a few ebony weapons for sale. Which was only interesting because I was a level 14.

The note on the wall said "meet me her at midnight" so I waited until midnight. Then an elf showed up and he had a unique glass bow. It was the "Bow of The Stag Prince." I pickpocketed it from him with the Misdirection perk. However, when I tried to engage the elf in chat I couldn't say anything to him.
