Just like things from Dawnguard, butter, milk etc were added to Taverns and shops in Skyrim. Immersion.

None of the things added in Hearthfire are ever seen out in the open anywhere but in the Hearthfire homes, they were added to the inventories of the shopkeepers, so nothing in the main game ever looked any different. Tthe Grey Quarter still looks the same, it is not a mini Solsteim
