Horrible shadow quality - impervious to tweaking

Post » Tue Feb 05, 2013 7:14 pm

So, I've started playing Skyrim again a few weeks ago and there's been one really, really annoying preventing me from enjoying the game:

Those blasted, hideous shadows.

Any tweaks I find and use don't seem to do anything, they look awful no matter what I do and they got me to the point I can't play the game anymore. I tried setting both Skyrim and SkyrimPrefs files to read-only, but that didn't do anything anyways.

Here's a screenshot I took a few moments ago: http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/7496/2013020500001r.jpg

My SkyrimPrefs.ini file:

I'll buy an e-beer to anyone that can help me solve it, I SERIOUSLY cannot play the game now due to my OCD kicking up, even though I really want to.

EDIT: HURR DURR me, I've swapped some things in the settings AGAIN and they look bearable...although I got another problem.

There's no shadows being cast in some interiors and exteriors at all, like Falkreath or Lakeview manor o_O

Shadows in these games have never been good. I even set mine to medium and never look at the ground. Since they are generated by the CPU, any increases in shadow quality can bring your rig to it's knees, no matter how uber your graphics.

So, before you make the following tweaks, make a back up of the INI, and be prepared to back out the changes if your framerates plummet to single digits
