some questions about Megaservers and Faction-Selection

Post » Wed Feb 06, 2013 6:37 pm

Hello there,
as I read some things about the upcoming TESO game I was wondering -
How on earth should "Megaservers", faction-based PvP and the "play-what-ever-you-want-when-ever-you-want"-feeling of TES possibly ever fit into one single game?

To explane what I mean:
Imho faction based PvP will only work if all players are bound to their faction, so that no one is able to join the winning team.

On the other hand the freedom of playing what ever I whant means playing an Orc today, Dunmer tomorrow and maybe a Nord next week.

So as far as I can see this two things can not go togeter on one "Megaserver".
For if people are allowed to play one character of each race, the would also be able to join whitch ever faction is winning in cyrodiil at that moment.
But if people have to stick to the faction they choose for their first character they also would miss 2/3eds of PvE/Quest/Story-Gameplay.
With other games this problem is solved by the fact that players are able to create characters of other factions on other servers.

Now for me as someone who enjoys both large-scale PvP-battles and exploring ingame worlds this the bigges horror to imagin.

Or is there something I read over - some super cool feature that makes both of that possible at the same time?
If not I'd like to hear what other opinions are out there on this subjekt.

Thanks for reading

OK, so this means you may have characters of different factions, right?

Now this would put me in a position where I can allways choose the character whose faction is leading in faction vs faction PvP, wouldn't it?

Cyrodil is split into campaigns of 2000 people each - chances are you will not be in the same campaign for your faction,

It is not left to chance, Zenimax has said that no one can have it so that they are in the same campaign in opposing Alliances, it just does not work that way because then you could use one character to spy for the other side.

This.

They have made some big claims about the megaserver technology and PvP systems that should prevent this kind of thing. It shouldn't really be possible for 1 faction to gain too much of an upper hand, and if it does the megaserver will balance the population on the fly I think.
